Therapeutic Philosophy

Sophia Parris believes that everyone has the capacity to grow, heal, and reach their full potential. Growing up in Bend, she witnessed the struggles of youth and the lack of mental health resources in the community. This inspired her commitment to supporting individuals through life’s challenges, helping them navigate barriers, and fostering overall well-being. Sophia emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship as a transformative and supportive space.

Clinical Focus

Sophia works primarily with adolescents and young adults, specializing in:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Trauma, including identity development and life transitions
  • Self-harming behaviors and self-esteem
  • Relationship challenges
  • LGBTQIA+ and gender-diverse clients
  • Other mental health concerns

Her approach is strength-based, collaborative, and non-judgmental, designed to empower clients to develop insight, resilience, and coping strategies.

Therapeutic Approach

Sophia incorporates evidence-based modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as solution-focused and mindfulness-based approaches. She creates a safe and welcoming environment where clients can explore thoughts and feelings, process trauma, and build the skills needed to navigate daily life.

Education & Experience

Sophia earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from Portland State University in 2016. Prior to joining Bend Family Therapy, she worked in an in-patient mental health facility helping individuals in severe distress build resiliency and motivation. She also supported transitional age youth as an advocate and facilitator. These experiences inform her current work with adolescents and young adults, guiding her practice with empathy, understanding, and expertise.
